Open Box Studio - ideas that don't fit in a box!

Open Box Studio – ideje koje ne staju u kutiju!

Open Box Studio is a young company from Podgorica, specializing in 3D printing, graphic design and audio-visual production. The team is made up of creative people from different professions, who have come together with the aim of helping each other realize their ideas more easily. The Investment and Development Fund of Montenegro recognized their efforts and engagement as well as the possibilities of 3D printing and they received an interest-free loan to start a business. Open Box Studio has so far met the various wishes of many clients, making jewelry, glasses, lamps, toys based on children's drawings, movie props... They have also cooperated with institutions such as the Montenegrin National Theater and the National Museum of Montenegro. They are currently involved in the "We can do everything together" project of the non-governmental association ŠkArt from Tivat, which is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and includes the creation of items for the Association of Disabled Youth of Montenegro (UMHCG) as well as intensive training in 3D modeling and 3D printing. The project deals with researching the needs of young people with disabilities in terms of assistive technology, 3D modeling and training young people with disabilities to independently create personalized assistive technology. Each of the participants has the opportunity to model an object of their choice during the course, and that object will be printed after the end of the course. They make items such as mobile ramps for wheelchairs, openers for various types of items, cutlery holders, mouse accessories, city maps for the visually impaired. All items are necessary in the daily life of people with disabilities and were not available to them on the market until now. It takes 1 hour to print one food holder and 24 hours to print a ramp. At the moment, Open Box Studio is printing at least 40 items that are the result of a previous mapping of the needs of UMHCG members. 3D printing enables the creation of objects that will facilitate the daily activities of young people with disabilities. Until now, they belonged to one of the discriminated and marginalized social groups. Precisely because of better integration into society, these young people now not only have the opportunity to use items that meet their needs, but they also have the opportunity to create items according to their own measure and desire through training and, through socializing and education on the topic of modern technologies, they come to creative solutions. Education in this case includes the entire process of product creation, which includes action, innovation, socializing and sharing ideas. Everyone is new to this field so there are no wrong answers and no pressure, just a fresh start and unlimited possibilities. Since they work with plastic, the items become quickly available on the market. 3D printing is a new technology on the market, so one of Open Box Studio's missions is to raise awareness about the wide application and benefits of this technology. They want to influence its further development and use in the future as well. The plan for the future of Open Box Studio is to continue learning, sharing knowledge and ideas that, with new technologies, become not only more innovative but also accessible.
