For 2018, the release of a Serbian board game with the theme of the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki front is announced, and 3D Republika participated in the development with 3D printing.
With the motto "Let war forever remain just a game", the title of the game
Battle on the Drina was released. The team that developed this game is in the phase of preparing a new edition that will deal with the theme of the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki front, and it is announced that it will be released on the anniversary of 2018.
3D Republic has had a hand and collaborated on the development of the figurines that should be found in this game. The first model is the work of our designer and technologist Veljko Miletić.
Dragutin Matić, from the photograph entitled "Eye of the Hawk", served as inspiration. - "I wanted to achieve an expression of defiance and determination," emphasizes Veljko: "an expression I have in my memory of my great-grandfather from Thessaloniki, as well as the people I met in the countryside." These are people with strong, deep facial features marked by the harshness of life."

Dragutin Matić (1888 – 1970) is a Serbian soldier who participated in all battles of the Serbian army from 1910 until the end of the First World War.
This approach to detail also required advanced technology. This is where a 3D printer with high resolution fits in perfectly. - "Given that we wanted to preserve the facial expression on a figurine of only 10 cm, we had to use an extremely precise 3D printer," said Svetozar Kolesar, Prime Minister of the 3D Republic: "We worked with
an Ultimaker 3D printer from the 2+ series at a resolution of 0, 06mm.
Figures for these types of games must necessarily have a certain movement, which can be a tricky thing in modeling. - "The challenge in modeling the figure was that the figure itself in the game participates in both attack and defense. Therefore, it should symbolize both dynamics and statics. It is difficult to reconcile these requirements in one sculpture," said Veljko and adds: "In addition to those requirements, it was also necessary to adapt the model to 3D printing itself."
At the end, the soldier is shown in a gentle but determined stride with a defiant expression on his face. With that, Veljko believes that ambivalence has been achieved, an open association for the player to experience the figure as both offensive and defensive.
From the creators of the game, there was a request that the uniform and equipment of the Serbian soldier model respect historical accuracy. That request brought difficulties in the printing of the figure itself, but with modifications and adaptations of the model, that request was successfully achieved.
